Electric Vehicles (EVs) are rapidly becoming the trend in the automobile industry. Automobile manufacturers are producing new electric vehicles and updating previous models with electric and hybrid versions. Keeping the trend in view, KIA has added a plug-in hybrid Sportage model to its front-runner SUV. Announcing the KIA Sportage PHEV 2023.

2023 KIA Sportage PHEV

The PHEV model is a new addition to the 5th generation KIA Sportage, which arrived in June of last year. KIA offered a conventional 2.5-litre petrol model and a hybrid model with a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine and a 44.2 kW electric motor at the time. The manufacturer has now shown a third plug-in hybrid model.

Power

The 1.6-liter turbocharged engine in the KIA Sportage PHEV is the same as in the hybrid model, but with a larger 13.8-kWh battery and a more powerful 66.9-kW electric motor. A six-speed automatic transmission transfers power between the electric motor and the gas engine.

The engine has a power output of 177 horsepower and torque of 265 Nm, while the electric motor has a power output of 90 horsepower.

Fuel Efficiency

The plug-in hybrid Sportage, as per KIA, has a 32-mile (51.5-kilometer) electric-only range.

Charging Time

Upon connected to a 240 V Level 2 charger, a 7.2 kW charger will charge the battery in two hours or less.

Trim Levels

The 2023 Sportage is available in seven trim levels: LX, EX, SX, SX-Prestige, X-Line, X-Pro, and X-Pro Prestige. However, the PHEV model will only be available in the three X-Line trim levels.

Official Launch

In the third quarter of 2022, the 2023 Kia Sportage PHEV will go on sale in the United States. KIA will announce the official prices, specifications, and features in the near future.

In the US market, KIA’s first-ever plug-in hybrid Sportage will compete against the Hyundai Tucson PHEV, Ford Escape PHEV, and Toyota RAV4 Prime.

The Pakistan is also entering into the hybrid and the EV era; however, the KIA lovers will have to wait for the official announcement when the manufacturer will launch this variant in Pakistan.
