Telecom companies announce increase in call and internet package prices

Telecom companies

Mobile telecom companies have increased their prices for calls and internet services yet again. Networks like Zong, Jazz, and Telenor have all increased their data and call bundle costs.

Since the mini budget in January 2022, the carriers have raised the pricing for calls and data bundles for the second time.

The companies’ Superload package has been increased by 50%, from Rs. 50 to Rs. 100. According to shopkeepers and retailers, firms have begun to apply higher pricing.

Normal internet and data package charges have been increased from Rs. 10 to Rs. 25. Moreover, the monthly call bundles have also raised by telecom companies.

Monthly bundles have been increased from Rs. 40 to Rs. 100, while all-in-one weekly packages have been increased from Rs. 10 to Rs. 20.

The previous government (PTI) passed a mini-budget that effectively increased the payable tax from 10% to 15%, contradicting to the Telecom Sector’s demands.

Previously, a major telecom firm was given permission to boost package pricing, but in recent months, all other telecom providers have been given permission to do the same, with the approval of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).

Following the enactment of the limits, the government shared a version of pricing rules with cellular phone companies; CMOs will have to seek authorization before raising costs for internet and telephone bundles.
