Smart lockdown expanded to posh areas in Lahore

After the Punjab government’s order, the police have imposed partial and complete lockdown in the posh areas of Lahore from Wednesday.

Yesterday, the Punjab government ordered the police to impose lockdown in the posh areas of Lahore by midnight. The strict orders were given as cases of COVID-19 are rapidly increasing. This decision will cause many inconveniences to approximately half of the residents in terms of their daily activities but still, the authorities went on with the decision curb the spread of virus.

The regions that are included are Johar Town, Gulberg, Defence Housing Authority, Faisal Town and Askari 10, Model Town, and Garden Town. Moreover, the whole walled city will also remain closed or locked that includes, Masti Gate, Mochi Gate, Tibbi City, Bhati Gate, Yakki Gate, Akbari Gate, Lohari Gate.

These areas of Lahore reported a high number of cases of coronavirus, so the decision pf lockdown was taken under these circumstances. The health and district authorities finalized the list of all these areas and suggested them for a smart lockdown.

All the residents have been told by the officials that they are allowed to get out of homes only for buying essentials and other activities will be banned during this drastic condition including all the gatherings, roads, and streets, and wedding type functions have been strictly banned.

Punjab Health Minister Dr. Yasmeen Rashid said there had been at least 69,536 coronavirus cases in the province, including 34,708 in Lahore. Many areas are already under lockdown in the province and other areas are also under observation that might get closed down if cases surge.
