Research students seek one year time extension to complete their work

Research students extension

Welcoming the government’s decision for reopening of the educational institutions by September 15, Graduate and Post Graduate research students have requested the government for a one year extension for their thesis submission as they are unable to complete the work on the provided time due to coronavirus.

The government has decided to reopen the education sector from September 15 with the strict implementation of SOPs. The government is also planning to open research labs right after the holidays of Eidul Azha. But students who are doing graduation or post-graduation requested an extension from six months to one year for completion of research work.

The official request was sent from students to the relevant authorities. Supervisors and research students are eagerly waiting for the reply from Higher Education Commission HEC regarding the extension date. PhD, Master’s, and Bachelor’s students also wrote to Education Minister Shafqat Mehmood, Universities Vice Chancellors, and Chairman Vice Chancellors Committee to cooperate on this matter.

Research students seek extension due to Covid-19

As per students “our valuable research time was unused due to coronavirus pandemic and because of that now we are unable to complete our thesis and submit it in remaining time”.

Students further added the argument that “all hostels were evacuated by the management of all universities along with private hostels, and in such a situation, we are unable to do our thesis.”

The research labs were also closed and authorities asked everyone to remain at home due to COVID-19. Also, the students said that they need time to go into the field to conduct surveys and interviews, and all these things were not possible due to the lockdown.
