Along with asking for the deployment of Army, the government of Punjab has taken big steps to maintain peace and sectarian harmony during the month of Muharram.
Ministry of the Interior, Punjab has issued guidelines in this regard, according to which, mourning processions will be given security of 4 level cover. Deputy Commissioners have been given the power to stop district level entry of religious scholars to keep the secretariat harmony. Deputy Commissioner will be authorized to take independent decisions for keeping peace and secretariat harmony.
There will be an aerial watch of mourning processions from 9th and 10th Muharram. Pillion riding on a motorbike will be strictly forbidden from 1st to 10th of Muharram, closure of mobile phone service will be done on as and when required basis.
According to the guideline, there will be no compromise on social distancing. The federal government has been requested by the Punjab government for the deployment of rangers and Pak Army during the 9th and 10th days of Muharram.
According to the Ministry of Interior Punjab, 24 companies of the army and 34 companies of ranger have been demanded. Provincial committee of the cabinet along with provincial ministers, chief secretary, and IG and other law enforcement agencies will also visit the divisional level before Moharram and give guidelines if required to the administration.
Pakistan is one of those fortunate countries which have been successful in repelling the attack of coronavirus to a great extent. But, it is big apprehension that during Moharram, the condition of social distancing may be neglected especially in religious gatherings at homes, Imam Bargahs, and mourning processions.
Undoubtedly the situation of peace has become appreciable in the country but there are still some miscreants who are looking to destroy the peace in the region. The government of Punjab and other law enforcement agencies may consider any mischievous and dangerous activity while making and improving the security plan in Punjab.
