The Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) has approved a total of 495 more seats for the medical and dental colleges across the country.
On Wednesday, the Pakistan Medical Commission said that more than 400 seats have been added in medical and dental colleges. PMC explained in this regard that many requests had been received from an emergency enhancement of medical and dental college seats in order to accommodate various quotas.
“PMC had reviewed these requests and authorized the enhancement of seats in certain colleges,“ it said.
“The distribution of these seats to accommodate various quotas is the purview of provincial governments, and they may proceed under their command and authority,“ PMC added.
As per the statistics provides by the PMC, at least 495 seats have been added to the existing numbers. It includes, two hundred and forty seats increased in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, two hundred and forty seats in Punjab, and fifteen in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
Moreover, the Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) has asked students to report the alleged anomalies in the medical and dental college admissions with evidence.
As per the statement of the spokesman for the PMC, there are reports of gross violation of the admission process and the PMC Admission Regulations 2020-2021, this is why the responsible colleges will be dealt with strictly.
All students and parents were especially advised by the spokesman to not respond to any demand, except the college’s prescribed fee in consideration for admission. Responding to such demands would otherwise amount to an illegal act on the part of the student. Also, the student can be disentitled in any medical or dental college.
“The PMC will, upon closure of admissions, review and verify the list of students admitted as notified by each university with the merit lists issued by PMC to ensure compliance of merit and admission criteria,” says the issued notification.
