Pakistan has made a significant oil and gas discovery in the Tal Block, located in Kohat District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

Tal Block is considered one of the largest hydrocarbon producing blocks in the country with 55 percent as the success ratio of discovery.

“Well test has shown 3,240 barrels of condensate per day, 16.12 mmscf (million standard cubic feet) of gas per day, and 48 barrels of water per day,” POL announced.

Pakistan Oilfields Ltd. (POL) holds a 21 percent stake in the Tal Block while Pakistan Petroleum Ltd. (PPL) and Oil and Gas Development Company Ltd. (OGDCL) each own 28 percent.

MOL Pakistan, a fully owned subsidiary of Hungarian multinational oil and gas company MOL Group and which has about 8.4 percent stake in the Tal Block also shared the major news.

According to official news shared by the MOL group, the companies said that the Mamikhel South-1 exploratory well productively stretched to a total depth of 4,939 meters. While testing the well it poured gas and condensate from Lockhart and Hangu formation and the flow rate observed was 6,516 boepd (barrels of oil equivalent per day) (16.12 MMscf/d and 3,240 BPD, respectively), with flowing well-head pressure of 4,476 PSI at 32/64” choke. More testing is still in progress as the MOL group is seeing potential.

Latest oil and gas discovery was MOL’s 13th in Pakistan and 10th in Tal Block

The Explorations and Production EVP Dr. Berislav Gaso of MOL Group said in a statement that “I am delighted to announce that we have made another discovery in Pakistan. This new discovery has de-risked an exploration play in deeper reservoir in the Tal Block, leading to new upside opportunities.”

Dr. Berislav added further that, “The Mamikhel South-1 discovery will also help to improve the energy security of the country from indigenous resources. We are thankful to our Joint Venture partners as well as the Government of Pakistan for their continued support.”

The MOL Plc. (Magyar OLaj- és Gázipari Részvénytársaság) also known as the MOL group is a Hungarian multinational oil and gas company and the company headquarter is in Budapest. The group is the second-largest LPG, Crude oil and natural gas producer in Pakistan.

MOL is responsible for 89 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day (MBOEPD) gross production as of the first quarter of the year 2020 in Tal Block. MOL is successfully operating in Pakistan for the past 21 years.
