The National Highways & Motorways Police (NH&MP) is looking forward to undertaking new initiatives for reducing reliance on human intervention and will be using drones on all motorways and highways for comprehensive monitoring of the traffic system and to meet any emergency.

As per the Ministry of Communications, police will use modern technologies like body-worn cameras, variable messaging signs, and intuitive automation that rationalize processes for travelers.

The public service management system, which is already in place on M-2 and M-3, will also be simulated on all motorways, an officer of the ministry said.

Likewise, a stricter administration to ensure implementation will be put in place by manning all toll plazas. “Drones will be deployed for enforcement, surveillance, and mitigating fencing issues,” the official mentioned.

A new black point system will also be started shortly whereby motorists will start accruing demerit points on their driving licenses for different violations.

Earlier on Thursday, Khalid Mahmood, the Inspector General of NH&MP carried out a field visit to the (M-1) facilitation center and to (M-2) North toll plaza.

During the visit, the IG was told about the recent developments on (M-2) North. Mr. Mahmood gave prizes to the workers of NH&MP, National Highway Authority, and Frontier Works Organisation. Awards were also given to the drivers of public service vehicles having the best track record.

Moreover, the Lahore traffic police chief has suggested Rs 2000 instead of Rs 200, the for motorists, violating the one-way and parking rules in order to control the flow of traffic in the provincial capital.

It was also reported that penalties for car parking and one-way rules’ violators, those driving unlicensed automobiles having tainted screens or with illegal number plates may also be increased from Rs 2,000 to Rs 5,000.

Lamenting the current traffic conditions, Lahore Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Muntazir Mehdi stated that the trend of violation of traffic rules has been increased in recent weeks, hence, his force has sought the heavy penalties to control the road parking culture- one of the key reasons of the long queues.
