China’s Yutong Bus to set up public transport plant in Sindh

Chinese company Yutong Bus agreed to the offer to establish a public transport plant in Sindh after an extensive meeting held between Sindh minister for transport Sharjeel Inam Memon and Yutong Bus Country Manager Paul Zhang, on Thursday. 

The plant would be constructed either in Karachi or Hyderabad. Both the parties agreed to create a ‘concrete’ proposal with regard to the matter by next week. 

According to the sources, this plant is to apparently be set up on 15 to 18 acres of land. 

“The Department of Transport is making every effort to set up a public transport plant in Sindh,” Sharjeel Memon stated, he went on to say that this venture would increase the public transport system. 

As per the transport minister, the mega project would bring more foreign investment into Pakistan and generate new employment opportunities. 

Secretary Transport Abdul Haleem Sheikh, National Radio and Telecommunication Corporation (NRTC) Project Director Sohaib Shafiq, and MD Sindh Mass Transit Authority Captain (retd) Altaf Hussain Sario were also present on the occasion.

Meanwhile, on the Chinese side, Paul Zhang was accompanied by Service Head Yutong Wayner Wang. 

Efforts for public transport 

Recently, Chairman of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari inaugurated the intra-district Peoples Bus Service in the city. The purpose of the mass transit system is to provide maximum facilitation to the people of Karachi and offer the metropolis desperately-required public transport infrastructure. 

Informed sources revealed that under the new Peoples Intra District Bus Service project, almost 240 air-conditioned buses had been imported from China which will run on seven different routes in Karachi. 

The project will start operations on Route 1 from Model Colony to Tower, moving on a distance of around 29.5 kilometers, and terminate at 38 stations. The transport minister stated that during the first phase, seven routes had been finalized for Karachi on which 240 buses will move.
