China to Confer Famous Pakistani Scientist Prof. Iqbal Choudhary

People’s Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region (GZAR), China has decided to confer famous Pakistani scientist Dr Iqbal Choudhary the 2020 Guangxi Golden Silk Ball Friendship Award.

Dr Iqbal is head of the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), Karachi University and Coordinator General of COMSTEC.

He is nominated for the 2020 Guangxi Golden Silkball Friendship Award from the People’s Government of GZAR for his splendid economic and social services in the province of Guangxi, China.

According to a letter, written by the Chinese officials, the award consists of a Gold medal and one hundred thousand RMB Bonus. The ceremony in this regard will be held in March 2021.

ICCBS is a federally funded research institute and a national laboratory. It is known for dedicated focus and research primarily in organic chemistry and natural products but takes research in environmental cleanup and other fundamental branches of chemistry including computational, green, and medical, and protein chemistry.

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary is famous internationally for his services in the field of natural product chemistry. He has made a big contribution to the discovery of novel natural products. He has discovered many potent anti-epileptic and anti-leishmanial compounds from indigenous medicinal plants which are under clinical trials. His contribution to reverse bacterial resistance to antibiotics represents a seminal contribution in this important field.

He has been leading the developing world’s finest research center of chemical and biochemical science since 2002. Dr. Chaudhry has trained hundreds of students, especially the women from across the Afro-Asian region in natural product chemistry.

His great work has been recognized internationally. He has established many research centers in Pakistan and also helped in establishing the research Centers in Africa and South and Central Asia.

Moreover, Prof. Iqbal Chaudhry has 1027 research publications internationally in the field of organic and bioorganic chemistry along with 57 international patents. He is the author of 68 books and 40 chapters in books, published by the famous US and European presses. 87 students of Ph.D. have completed their work under his supervision.

He also has been providing technical support and guidance to various industries of Pakistan. Dr. Chaudhry has been awarded Tamgha e Pakistan, Sitara e Imtiaz and Hilal e Imtiaz by the government of Pakistan.
