Canada Broadens Acceptable English Proficiency Tests for International Students"

In a move that enhances accessibility and flexibility, Canada has expanded the list of acceptable language proficiency exams for international students. The approved exams now encompass the Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP) General, Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) Test, Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic, and Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) iBT.

The inclusion of PTE and TOEFL exams, widely accepted in countries such as Canada, Australia, the USA, New Zealand, and the majority of UK universities, gives students greater freedom and broadens their choices.

Additionally, amendments have been made to the requirements for the IELTS Academic test. Earlier, a minimum score of 6.0 was compulsory in each band of the test – Reading, Listening, Writing, and Speaking. However, this condition has been revoked, and the sole requisite now is an overall band score of at least 6.0, without any distinct minimum scores in individual skills.
