WhatsApp to introduce 3d avatars

A few months after avatars made their debut on Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger, WhatsApp has announced that it is introducing customized, 3D avatars for its users on WhatsApp.

3D Avatars are coming to WhatsApp, according to a Facebook post by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg. The statement comes after a lengthy beta test that lasted for several months and was initially noted by WhatsApp beta tracker WABetaInfo in June.

In a blog post, WhatsApp stated that users could select one of 36 creative stickers representing various emotions and behaviors or use one of their customizable avatars as their profile photo. WhatsApp’s avatar stickers resemble Apple’s Memoji stickers or Snap’s Bitmoji.

The instant messaging app WhatsApp explained that “your avatar is a digital version of you that can be created from billions of combinations of diverse hair styles, facial features, and outfits.”

Additionally, WhatsApp stated that users would eventually receive style improvements such as lighting, shading, and hairstyle textures.

Once the feature is available, users can create their WhatsApp 3D avatars by going to the Settings menu. According to information on a FAQ page, the messaging app will also get a “Use Avatar” option in the profile photo settings that will allow users to use their virtual lookalike as a profile photo.

However, as of right now, neither Meta avatar from Instagram nor Facebook nor your WhatsApp avatar can be used on either Instagram or Facebook. This means that in order to utilize an avatar on WhatsApp, you must simply create an avatar there.
