Samsung unveils new Galaxy S22 series at Unpacked event, keeps old prices

Samsung Galaxy S22

Samsung unveiled a new series of Galaxy S22 phones during its first Galaxy Unpacked event in 2022: the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22 Plus. Samsung also revealed the Galaxy S22 Ultra, which comes with a stylus. It’s mainly a follow-up to Samsung’s once-popular Galaxy Note series.

Samsung claims that the S-Pen on the S22 Ultra has a quicker response time. Other changes are modest, such as a slight redesign and improved night vision capabilities in the camera. Despite being Samsung’s mainstream flagships, the Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus are likewise iterative. These phones are fairly similar to the devices from the previous year, except they are more robust and feature greater portrait mode functionality.

Lastly, Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S8 — which features a notch — is a new high-powered Android tablet.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra

If the Galaxy S21 Ultra, which featured a 6.8-inch screen, looked like it should have had room for a stylus, it’s because Samsung had already considered it. This year’s Galaxy S22 Ultra is the latest Galaxy Note, but with a faster S-Pen stylus reaction time of 9 milliseconds.

With a 108-megapixel main shooter, 3x and 10x telephoto cameras, and an ultra-wide lens, the camera hardware is comparable to the previous model, but the low-light quality and portrait mode with depth mapping have been improved. RAW shooting is now possible on the smartphone, and it can charge at a rate of 45W.

The 128GB Galaxy S22 Ultra starts at $1,199. It comes in a number of colours (some of which are only available through Samsung’s own store) and a fresh design.

The Samsung Galaxy S22 And S22 Plus

The Galaxy S22 and S22 plus have a similar design to the Galaxy S21 models, however instead of conflicting colours, they have new matching colours for the camera bump and body.

The real physical upgrade comes from the addition of Gorilla Glass Victus Plus on both the front and back, which replaces the previous base models’ cheap plasticky glass. The screens are 6.1 and 6.6 inches in size, with a resolution of 2340×1080 on both.

Better night imaging and a better portrait mode have been added to the cameras. The Galaxy S22 costs $799.99, and the Galaxy S22 Plus costs $999.99, both with 128GB of storage and 8GB of RAM.

Samsung TAB S8, Plus and Tab S8 Ultra,

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra boasts a 14.6-inch OLED display and is priced at $1,099.99. The 12.4-inch (Plus) and 11-inch Galaxy Tab S8 models both offer 120Hz refresh rates, but the larger one now sports an OLED display.

Tab S8 run Android 12, which includes Samsung’s newest attempt to improve multitasking. They can also be used as a second screen with a Samsung PC. The 11-inch Tab S8 costs $699.99, while the plus version costs $899.99.

YouTube Videos Can Be Watched Live With Friends Using Google Duo

Samsung also kept up its tradition of collaborating with Google to bring new functionality to its phones. This time, it’s YouTube remote watch parties inside Google Duo, as well as a YouTube Premium trial.
