Japan restoring British-era Gravity Flow Water Supply Scheme in Haripur City

Japan International Cooperation Agency is assisting Pakistan in restoring Gravity Flow Water Supply Scheme in Haripur City to improve depletion of underground water level and water scarcity of drinking water.

The Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan called on the Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Omar Ayub Khan. Ayub warmly greeted the new Japanese Ambassador and guaranteed him of the government of Pakistan’s full sustenance to further reinforce bilateral relations. 

This year Pakistan and Japan are rejoicing the 70th anniversary of beginning diplomatic associations and the 68th anniversary of the start of Japanese economic aid to Pakistan.

The Ambassador stated that Japan is the second prime donor to Pakistan. Since 1954, Pakistan has been provided with ¥1.35 trillion by the government of Japan through concessionary loans, grants and technical assistance for vocational training, energy sector, road and transport.

Besides, grants, concessional loans, and technical help have also been delivered for polio abolition, maternal & child health, Covid-19, vocational training, education, climate change & disaster risk management, water & sanitation, energy sector, road & transport, and governance.

The Ambassador also described that Japan’s government is now giving grant-in-aid aid for the progress of the water and sewerage system in Multan and national grant aid for the improvement of equipment for display and preservation in the Taxila Museum. 

“Tokyo is also extending grant cultural assistance for the improvement of equipment for exhibition and conservation in the Taxila Museum,” he said.

Moreover, it was also explained that a scheme for Gravity Flow Water Supply Scheme in Haripur City is on the way to process under JICA’s (Japan International Cooperation Agency) assistance.

This project will be going to recover reduction of underground water level and water scarcity of drinking water via, sustainable, efficient, and cost-effective gravity-based water supply measures for the residents of Haripur City. 

Meanwhile, the Economic Affairs Minister cherished the Japanese Government for providing sustained economic and technical help to Pakistan.
