79 percent of the deaths in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa due to coronavirus occurred at three medical teaching institutions in Peshawar. Most of the deaths occurred due to the shortage of intensive care equipment like ventilators, old age patients with co-morbidities, unavailability of healthcare specialists, and late hospitalization of the infected people.

So far, the death tally in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has reached 257, and 205 among these deaths occurred in Peshawar hospitals. Hayatabad medical complex has recorded 53 deaths, Lady Reading Hospital recorded 128 deaths and Khyber Teaching Hospital reported 24 deaths of coronavirus infected people.

Lady Reading Hospital received a large number of COVID-19 infected patients. It has recorded 128 deaths till now, from whom 80 percent were above the age of 61 years. Also, it has shut its doors for OPD services and they have started paying complete attention to the coronavirus infected patients. The shortage of faculty is still here like all medical departments.

The deficiency of faculty and the pulmonologist is another major reason for increased mortality in Peshawar hospitals.
