On Friday, National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) said that authorities in Karachi have sealed 6 marriage halls and 103 restaurants in the metropolis for not complying with health guidelines and COVID-19 prevalence.

According to NCOC, the authorities closed the marriage halls and restaurants due to the violation of SOPs. All provinces along with Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Islamabad were specially instructed to ensure health guidelines and abidance of protocol, as per the country’s nerve center in the fight against coronavirus.

The NCOC also cautioned the authorities that restaurants and marriage halls were “emerging as the epicenter of the disease.”

Asad Umar Federal Minister stressed that Pakistan is not completely out of danger as coronavirus cases are still being diagnosed at a lower level and that the country must not allow “irresponsible behavior” of some individuals to put everyone’s health at risk.

He warned that indoor restaurants and marriage halls were emerging as “high contributors to the COVID-19 spread” and therefore there are getting sealed. “NCOC today has directed all provinces and federating units to crack down on SOP violations in these places,” said the minister.

On Thursday, Deputy Commissioner South Irshad Sodhar talked about the rising number of cases in the port city, he directed authorities to impose micro smart lockdown in several areas of Karachi’s South district.

Few areas of Karachi have been sealed by imposing micro smart lockdown, an apartment located in the district’s sub-division Civil Lines and sub-division Saddar has been locked down.

The DC also said that a restaurant was also sealed for violating the prescribed coronavirus standard operating procedures (SOPs).

The development comes a day after a similar lockdown was imposed in two areas of Manghopir for two weeks. Saima Villas and Samama City are those two areas of Mangophir’s Gadap Town with a total population of 4,000 people approximately.
