25 killed as blasts and gunfire hit Kabul hospital

On Tuesday, Kabul yet again struck by two explosions causing 25 casualties and several injured, this time the target was a large military hospital. After explosions the witness also reported gunfire in the city. 

Taliban seized Afghanistan in August after two decades of insurgency against US and US backed government in the country, however, they are unable to stabilize the operation as authorities are facing string of attacks. 

Meanwhile, the previous attacks were claimed by militant group such as ISIS however, the Tuesday’s attack was not claimed by any group.

This was not the first time that hospital was under attack as back in 2017 the hospital was attacked when gunmen entered in the hospital pretend to be medical staffs and killed around 30 individuals. 

The Taliban media spokesman also confirmed the two explosions and gunfire in the hospital in Kabul. Apart from that the locals also heard the blast in the city. 

The first explosion has happened on the main military gate while the second bomb was someplace near the hospital. 

The Interior Ministry spokesman, Qari Saeed Khosty stated that the Taliban special forces have taken control of the area in order to secure. Moreover, the spokesman said that the actual figures of the casualties will be released after official confirmation.  

Meanwhile, an Italian NGO which runs a separate hospital in Kabul revealed that they received nine patients who got injured during blast. 

Despite the fact that both ISIS and the Taliban are hardline Sunni Islamist militant groups, they have fought for years over religious and strategic differences. Since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan, ISIS Khorasan, or ISIS-K, has claimed four mass-casualty attacks. 

The Taliban, which has yet to be recognized by any foreign power as Afghanistan’s legitimate government, is attempting to move from militant group to governmental power while dealing with a rising humanitarian catastrophe and substantial economic turmoil.
