Diabetic patients can get severe ailments like heart diseases, kidney failure, blindness, and many more. It cannot be suppressed rather can be controlled by avoiding some foods.

Pakistan has 35.5 million adults suffering from diabetes. Doctors keep on recommending these patients to balance their diet instead of taking too many medicines. They are told not to consume the foods that are to be avoided. There are a lot of foods that increase the sugar level in blood and insulin level in the body. Here are 5 foods to avoid if you are a diabetic patient to keep your diabetes in control.

Sweet beverages

Sweet beverages contain a high percentage of carbohydrates and sugar. Consuming it by type 2 diabetic patients is equivalent to suicide. 38 grams of carbohydrates are mixed into only 354 ml of soda serving. On the other hand, sweet beverages contain high fructose content that directly links to insulin resistance. High fructose level also causes the metabolism to lose efficiency which enlarges the belly fats and raise the cholesterol levels that can be highly harmful.

That is why multiple studies and all the doctors present a simple solution; avoid carbonated soft drink beverages and instead consume more water and sugar-free tea.

White bread and rice

White bread, pasta, and rice contain a high amount of carbohydrates that are harmful to the health of a diabetic patient. Refined flour always raises the level of sugar in the blood and whichever product contains refined flour, it has the same side effects.

Diabetic patients are especially recommended to eat fiber bread which absorbs the sugar inside the body’s bloodstream. It not only calms the blood sugar but it also reduces the further absorption of sugar in the body.


Coffee is full of carbohydrates. Calories that goes into the body increases the chances of weight gain. The only healthy coffee is plain black sugar-free coffee or espresso. Sugar should not be mixed into it and only a little amount of cream can be added just for the sake of taste.

Fruit juices

Fruits juices are not healthy for diabetic patients because they contain sweetness that raises sugar in blood. This is not only limited to the artificially flavored fruit juices but also all the natural fruit juices.

Eating fruits without making juice is a far better option. Fresh fruits can give you good health without increasing sugar levels. The healthiest juice that a diabetic patient can consume is a glass of water with a squeezed lemon. This is the best drink among all drinks.

Dry fruits

Dry fruits always lose their water after the drying process. This process increases the concentration of healthy nutrients which are vitamin C and potassium. The amounts of sugar also gets concentrated.  That is why diabetic patients should not consume dry fruits. This will always increase the level of sugar and your diabetes condition can get bad.

Pakistani doctors always suggest every diabetic patient to not consume sugar and other foods to avoid. It is the poison that kills you gradually without much noticing and ultimately, the person gets diagnosed with diabetes.
