Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to Launch Margalla Avenue Amidst Infrastructure Upgrades in Islamabad

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is set to inaugurate the newly completed Margalla Avenue on June 20, as the Capital Development Authority (CDA) rushes to put the final touches on the significant roadway project.

Stretching from the GT Road to the E-12 toll plaza, the first phase of the Margalla Avenue project has been completed at an expenditure of Rs. 4 billion. This inaugural segment of the avenue extends over a distance of 5.5 kilometers, featuring six lanes to ensure smooth and efficient traffic flow.

However, the road’s construction was not without challenges. Reports of cracks near Shah Allah Ditta emerged during the process, causing a delay as the team worked to rectify these unexpected issues. Although the road construction was completed in January of this year, the inauguration was postponed pending Prime Ministerial approval. Now, the green light has finally been given, and the avenue is all set to be officially unveiled.

This development comes on the heels of another significant infrastructure project led by Prime Minister Sharif: the recent inauguration of the newly designed IJP Road, which has been renamed Karnal Sher Khan Shaheed Road.

Serving as a key artery between Islamabad and Rawalpindi, particularly for heavy transport vehicles, Karnal Sher Khan Shaheed Road wends its way through numerous commercial zones. This includes Pir Wadhai, known for housing the most frequented bus stop in both cities.

The revitalization of Karnal Sher Khan Shaheed Road aims to rectify existing inadequacies and boost the thoroughfare’s infrastructure for the benefit of daily commuters. Highlighting the comprehensive approach to the redesign, the CDA Chairman underlined the addition of pedestrian bridges, service lanes, and exclusive bicycle lanes.

These infrastructure developments underscore the government’s commitment to enhancing road networks and commuting efficiency, promising improved transit experiences for residents and visitors alike in the capital city of Islamabad.
