Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Chairs High-Level Meeting to Discuss Future Strategies

A high-level meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, was held on Wednesday to review the country’s situation and hold consultations on future strategies on constitutional and legal issues. The meeting was attended by officials from the ruling coalition parties and an official statement was released later in the night.

During the meeting, the prime minister Shehbaz Sharif decided to convene a huddle of heads of parties in the ruling coalition after Eidul Fitr to take the already initiated national consultation process to the next stage with all parties within and outside parliament. The process of pre-consultation and negotiations regarding the holding of elections is going on among the coalition parties, for which the prime minister has already formed a committee.

The participants reiterated that the coalition government has expressed its willingness to engage in meaningful, serious, and constitutionally bounded negotiations at every stage since the presentation of the economic pact. They emphasized that politicians have never closed the door of dialogue to anyone and cannot do so.

Furthermore, the prime minister Shehbaz Sharif directed officials to ensure minimum loadshedding of electricity during the summer season and expedite the work for the restoration of the Neelum-Jhelum project. The meeting was informed about the production of electricity and the expected demand during this summer. The revival of the Neelum-Jhelum power project was discussed in detail, and it was said that the project would be fully restored and will start generating cheap and clean electricity by July this year.
