Pink Buses Turn a New Leaf: Aiding Female Students in Peshawar Colleges

Pink Buses in peshawar

In a significant move towards enhancing female student mobility, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa administration has allocated 14 pink buses to various girls’ colleges throughout Peshawar. These buses, originally received as gifts in 2018, had remained unutilized until recently.

Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ghulam Ali, inaugurated the redistribution of these pink buses to the respective colleges in Peshawar. The initiative aims to simplify the daily commuting challenges faced by the young female students in the city.

According to a local media report, the female student community has warmly welcomed this initiative. They expressed relief from the usual dependency on rickshaws for their daily commute and were optimistic about their enhanced safety measures with the provision of these pink buses.

The report further elaborated that these buses were received by the provincial government in 2018 as part of a separate project that, unfortunately, failed to materialize, resulting in the buses lying idle in the depot.

The interim administration has now put these buses to good use, creating an impactful change in the daily lives of the female students in Peshawar. However, it remains unclear whether this facility will be restricted to Peshawar or expanded to other regions within Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the future.
