PIA Restructuring: PM Directs To Submit Plan At Earliest

Anwaarul-Haq Kakar, the caretaker prime minister, instructed the relevant authorities to present a comprehensive plan for the restructuring of PIA to the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) as soon as possible.

While presiding over a high-level meeting on Pakistan International Airlines in Islamabad, the premier issued these instructions.

He instructed the PIA administration and the aviation division to work around the clock to better the functioning of the national flag carrier during the meeting.

The PIA was thoroughly explained to the prime minister. The gathering was informed that the recent change to the PIA Act 2016 has made it possible for the national flag carrier to be reorganized.

He suggested that steps be done to increase the air connectivity between rural communities and other cities around the nation.

The national flag carrier Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has had its accounts frozen by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) due to the non-payment of more than Rs 8 billion in taxes.

According to the FBR, the PIA committed to pay Rs 2 billion in Federal Excise Duty obligations due in August but broke its commitment to do so.
