Lahore Airport declared fit for heavy aircraft operations by CAA

Lahore Airport

Runway of Allama Iqbal International Airport, Lahore has been declared appropriate for heavy aircraft operations till 3rd November 2024.

As per the analysis report of the Civil Aviation Authority’s (CAA) Directorate of Airspace and Aerodrome Regulations (DAAR) confirmed the Lahore airport’s runway as “world-class,” while stating it is “authentic for landing and take-off of Boeing and Airbus aircraft.”

According to the rules announced by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), across the world international airports are inspected annually to regulate the excellence of their runways and operational safety.

The DAAR accreditation permits large aircraft, like Airbus A330, A340, and A350 and Boeing 747, 787, 777 to operate at the Lahore airport under ICAO’s Aerodrome Reference 4E Code.

For those uninformed, the airfields, including the maneuvering area, movement area, associated facilities, and equipment, are considered as per one or more critical aircraft, which is the aircraft with the highest necessities that can use the airport.

In keeping with the International Civil Aviation Organization Annex 14 Volume 1 and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency rules for airports in Europe, every aerodrome is allocated an ‘Aerodrome Reference Code.’

The reference code is built on the Reference Field Length (first code number) and aircraft wingspan (second code letter) of the acute aircraft. For example, Reference Code 4E indicates an airplane having a reference field length of 1,800 metres and above and a wingspan of up to 65 metres.

Earlier in October, Jinnah International Airport of Karachi had been validated for aircraft maneuver up to Aerodrome Reference Code 4E or below from 18 September 2021 to 17 September 2024.
