With 3,060 new infections, total coronavirus cases across Pakistan tops 900,000

Pakistan has reported over 3,000 coronavirus cases as 3,060 new infections have been detected in last 24 hours, making country’s total tally cross 900,000. 

On Sunday, the country reported 3,060 new coronavirus cases taking the total caseload to 903,599 amid the third wave. According to the data provided by National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), at least 57 more people lost their lives due to the virus, pushing the national tally to 20,308. 

Now the coronavirus positivity rate in the country stands at 5.21% with 62,917 active cases across the country. In addition to this, 820,374 people have recovered from the virus in the country so far.  

Provincial breakdown  

The official portal revealed that the total number of covid patients in Sindh has reached 309,647 while 4,920 people have died so far. 

Meanwhile, the total number of COVID-19 patients is 334,760 and 9,784 people have died in Punjab so far due to coronavirus whereas the total number of patients in Balochistan is 24,583 and the death toll has touched 270. 

Moreover, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has recorded a total of 129,883 virus patients, with 3,950 deaths, while coronavirus infections in Azad Kashmir have reached 18,808 and 532 people have died. 

NCOC took decisions 

As the 3rd wave of the virus is stronger than previous ones, inoculation for people above 30 years of age has been started from today as the country aims to rise its COVID-19 vaccination drive. The decision was made by the NCOC in a meeting on Friday. 

“The messages for those who are being scheduled will go out today,” Federal Minister for Planning and Development and Chief of the National Command and Operation Centre Asad Umar had said in a tweet. 

NCOC meeting further allowed the reopening of schools in districts where the COVID-19 positivity ratio is less than 5%.
