The decision was made in Islamabad after a meeting presided over by Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed. The secretary of the interior, chairman of NADRA, DG Passport, and extra DG FIA all attended the crucial meeting.

The development is being hailed as a significant step toward removing all obstacles in the current manual procedure and making it easier for Pakistanis living overseas to process online applications.

Biometric documents will ease passport control and pave the road for service automation by speeding up the identifying procedure.

It should be noted that each e-passport will have a microchip with all of an individual’s biometric information, which will aid in the authentication of the traveller’s identification.

On the main page of the new e-passport, two photos of the passport holder will now be displayed. The introduction of the e-passport service will also assist airport officials in completing the travel process in the quickest possible period.
