Anemia is a condition of low red blood cell count or lack of hemoglobin in the blood. Hemoglobin binds with oxygen and makes it available to the body for usage. If there is any abnormality in RBCs or defect in the structure of hemoglobin oxygen supply to the body is hampered. Symptoms show that the body cells are lacking oxygen. Different types vary widely in causes and treatment.

Some types are hereditary and can be present by birth. Pregnant women and people with chronic diseases are at an elevated risk of anemia. If left unchecked it can bring serious consequences.
